I was born in Cornwall in the early 1970s, the middle of three sisters, all born within 36 months of each
other. Imagine the teenage tantrums in our house!
All three of us have a creative streak and spent a lot of time
drawing, painting, knitting and sewing to greater or lesser degrees. I migrated to art based classes at school and did a Foundation
degree at Falmouth School of Art. From there I travelled to the University of Huddersfield to study Textile Design, which
I greatly enjoyed and which played on the interests I had as a child in craft-based things and creating.
In Huddersfield,
I met my husband. I was serving the drinks and he was drinking them! Several years later we got married and on finishing my
degree I started the first of several demanding and interesting sales-based jobs. Because of the stress levels involved, as
in many corporations in our busy times, I found myself attending a yoga class to help me relax. This in turn, led me to studying
to teach the subject and from there rethinking my life so that I could teach more and work less.
I
did my training through the Yoga for Health Foundation in Bedford. This organisation was world- renowned for its work on remedial
yoga, helping those with serious medical conditions to come to terms with their situation and alleviate some of the symptoms
as well as training general yoga teachers.
I was a founding trustee of the Yoga for Health & Education Trust,
an organisation dedicated to promoting the benefits of yoga to everyone, including those with remedial needs. I feel proud
of the work I did to help get the organisation up and running.
I have been practising yoga for over ten
years and teaching since 2004. I taught at Huddersfield Technical College for several years as well as teaching private classses
for local businesses before relocating to Scotland where I now teach open classes.
